Bobby George

Bobby George

Without doubt the most colourful, charismatic and entertaining player in the history of darts. Winning the first solo event he entered, the 1976 Hainault Super League singles. Soon becoming the dominant force in the Eastern Counties winning the Essex Masters three consecutive years. Bobby won his first major title, The North American Open in 1978, The News of the World Championship was won in the following year where he became the first and only player to win the title without dropping a single leg! ‘The Dazzler’ represented England on 26 occasions and remains in the list of top 10 winning players. In 1986 he was again crowned News of the World Champion. About this time Bobby’s dilemma was whether to continue tournament darts or perform darts exhibitions. Deciding on the latter he reasoned that playing ‘fun darts’ and getting paid wasn’t the worst way to be earning a living. Another string was added to his bow when in1999 Bobby and Ray Stubbs co-presented ‘The Embassy’ on BBC. His infectious personality was an instant hit with the viewing public and to date has been ever present and is now BBC’s ‘face of darts’. Only a small percentage of Bobby’s successes are mentioned here and this brief biog was never intended as a history lesson. Anyone who can spell or play darts knows Bobby George can ‘throw an arrow’ and has nothing to prove. If you want a serious game played in silence with no humour please don’t call Bobby, ‘cos life’s too short! For a great fun night where Bobby plays audience members to the sound of non stop laughter this is ‘a must’ have show for your venue.
